Babies and children in childcare settings are susceptible to invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD)

IPD is a serious infection caused by the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae. These bacteria can lead to potentially life-threatening disease when they invade the lungs (bacteremic pneumonia), bloodstream (sepsis), and brain (meningitis).

Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria are very common. They can be resistant to antibiotics and may be hard to treat.

That’s why it’s so important to prevent IPD before it starts with a vaccine like Prevnar 20.

Prevnar 20 does not treat active IPD infections.
